I have been waiting on this one for some time, it's my Christmas gift to me this year.  It's a Hatfield Rifle, designed by Ted Hatfield from an original Kentucky long rifle built by Moses Hatfield in the 1830's.  Yes, he is one of those Hatfield's.  It's full stocked in curly maple.  54" long with a 39" long 1:70 twist .50 caliber Green Mountain barrel and L&R caplock.  It's got a set trigger and barleycorn sight, as close as you will get to the original Long Kentucky rifle and American made.  The quality is second to none, and despite being at least 30 years old it looks to be unfired.  It would have been fired today had I not felt a cold coming on and it being cold outside I wisely elected to remain indoors today.  I badly wanted one of these 35 years ago but no way I could afford it at the time, but now it's mine    The rifle has a great balance, and overall feel to it.

That there is a nice one, Jim!
The Hatfield is one of the most graceful-looking rifles made!

Those really are gracefull rifles. I have held and shot several different ones in both percussion and flint.

I got real lucky on this rifle, unfired from 30 years ago, in perfect shape after so long a storage, and the price was right.  It's my understanding that these were made to be easily converted to flint if the customer wanted it.

Don't worry, these are all from the archive, I have not bought any new guns this year, I am too busy hoarding, food, ammo, and components.  I do have a number of old purchases that have never been posted before, but that will take me time to set up.  I still have all my BP gun topics I could repost, I had them up on my forum before I ever put them on Tims so I can repost.

Rock, I drooled and left fingerprints on every Hatfield I saw in the early '80s.  Log Cabin had a few of them on the rack, and I think the only reason I didn't buy one was that I found an in-the-white rifle for less money.
All right, son: roll them guns up, count the money, and put your seat belt on.
